Principal's Message

I hope all of our families have had a great summer! I know the teachers and staff at Cottonwood have used this time to recharge and begin preparing for the 2026-2027 school year. As the start of school approaches, I wanted to share a few important reminders and updates. Some are changes, while others are points of emphasis. My hope is that these expectations will help make the school year smooth, safe, and successful for everyone.

Cell Phone Bill

USD 305 has created an FAQ page, which I have linked below, that answers many of the questions families may have regarding the district's cell phone policy.

All electronic communication devices should be left at home whenever possible. If a device is brought to school, it will be collected and stored by the student's homeroom teacher during the school day.

If a student has a device out during the school day:

• First offense: The device will be taken to the office, and the student may pick it up at the end of the day.
• Second offense: The device will be taken to the office, and a parent or guardian will need to pick it up.

Morning Drop-Off

The front circle is designated as a drop-off only area. Please do not park in the front circle. Parking in this area prevents other families from using the drop-off lane efficiently and creates safety concerns as students walk between vehicles. We have painted the curb yellow and posted "No Parking" signs to help keep traffic moving and ensure a safe arrival for all students.

Parent Access to the Building

After the first two weeks of school, we ask that parents say goodbye to their students in the atrium and allow them to walk to class independently. Any visitor who needs to go beyond the atrium will be asked to sign in at the office. This procedure helps ensure the safety and security of all students once they are in the building.

Toys and Fidgets

Please do not allow students to bring toys or fidgets to school. These items can become distractions to learning. Our school policy is as follows:

• First occurrence: Warning.
• Second occurrence: The item will be held by the teacher for the remainder of the school day.
• Third occurrence: The item will be brought to the office, and a parent or guardian will need to pick it up.
